Junior Achievement is an educational programme which links local industry to schools. Merck, Sharpe, Dohme in Carlow has a number of trained volunteers who presented various programmes to four classes this year. 2nd class, Room 7, followed a programme called "Our World". Through hands on activities, the girls learned about workers in their community, the work they perform, reasons why workers are paid and what taxes are. The volunteer working with Room 7, was Barbara O’ Connor from Unum Ireland.
5th class, Room 13, learned all about STEM-Skills, Technology, Engineering & Maths. Under the direction of volunteer, Hugh Mansfield from Unum Ireland, the girls explored STEM skills and the role they play in the future of the business world.
As we know, science is all around us and 6th class discovered this in the "Our Universe" programme. Led by volunteers Ronan Weldon from Unum Ireland and Conor Kavanagh from Diageo Ireland, the girls explored the world of science and engineering in a fun and exciting way.
