"Hello to all the Children of the World", was the refrain to be heard if you looked in on our school on Friday 23rd January. The girls swapped their green and white school uniforms for multi-coloured clothes and traditional costumes from across the globe, as teachers and pupils celebrated International Day. Their bright colours represented flags from all around the world and a fantastic morning of culture and music was had by all.
Pupils took part in a concert during the morning in which music, song and rhythm were present in abundance. The Junior Infant children opened the concert with a lively number all the way from the West Indies. Performances with a flavour of New York, Europe, Africa and Australia delighted all.
The principal, Ms. Geralyn Costello was extremely proud of the students, as they showcased their talents in an atmosphere of fun, respect and learning. "We celebrate International Day in school each year", she said. "Collaboration between people of different nationalities enriches all members of our school community. I am proud to say that we have students from 30 countries attending Holy Family GNS. We learn so much from each other in a positive working environment".
" International Day is one of my favourite days of the year"", said one enthusiastic student. I think it's cool that we have girls in our school from so many countries.".
“We also celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, Science Day and World Book Day in our school", added another pupil, so there is a lot to look forward to in school for spring and summer".
Ms. Costello addressed the gathering at the end of the morning, thanking pupils and staff for making the day such a success. She extended a special word of thanks to the parents for their ongoing support with International Day Celebrations and with all school endeavours.
Thank you to Mrs. Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Webb who co-ordinated the event.
